Rochmon Record Club Listening Party, Joe Cocker – “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” at Universal Preservation Hall, 25 Washington Street in Saratoga Springs. The greatest live album ever recorded? Joe Cocker – “Mad Dogs and Englishmen”! Not even a question. Thrown together to meet Cocker’s contractual agreements, the band was drawn from the best touring and studio musicians available. “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” assembled, rehearsed and hit the road in 8 days. Lead by musical director, piano player and vocalist Leon Russell, the band is perfectly balanced on the head of a pin. “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” is filled with covers, from “Honky Tonk Women”, ”Feelin’ Alright”, “She Came In Through the Bathroom Window”, and the show stopping “The Letter”. Cocker’s voice, Russell’s inventive direction, and a band for the ages, create a concert to be listened to forever. We’ll listen to Joe Cocker’s “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” on UPH’s state of the art sound system.
